In March 1922, the bank’s new directors selected Lansing architect Samuel Butterworth’s plans for the bank building. The building cost $12,500 and was built on land sold by Arthur Fleming at the northwest corner of Holt Road and Cedar Street. The bulk of the cost came from the vault and banking equipment, at $7,300, and actual building construction costing $5,200. Building contractor was Lou Price. The building foundation was laid at the beginning of June 1922. Construction was completed in September 1922.
In 1952, the Holt State Bank stockholder approved the merger of Holt State Bank with American State Bank. In 1958, American State Bank merged with the Central Trust Company, forming American Bank and Trust, which lasted through 1983.
The historic 1922 Holt State Bank building served as the Holt Branch of American Bank and Trust from 1958 through 1974. The old bank building was demolished in 1974, while simultaneously its replacement was constructed on the same site just west of the old building.
The replacement 1974 bank building still stands at 4308 W. Holt Rd. It closed as a bank in the late 2010s and was sold to Novak Orthodontics in 2021, which made an addition to the west side of the building.
