Sinclair Service Station
2233 North Cedar Street, Holt, Michigan
Status: Still Standing
Opened: 1969
Architect: Unknown
The building that anchors Holt’s five corners, situated on the southeast corner of Cedar Street and Aurelius Road at 2233 North Cedar Street, was constructed in 1969. It originated as a Sinclair Service Station.
Previously on the site, dating back to the 1930s, there was an International Harvester dealer on the corner. And by the mid-1940s, an box-style service station was operated as Art’s Phillips 66 Station, Ted Foster’s Phillips 66 Station, Jake & Earl’s 5 Point Phillips 66 Station, Jake & Red’s 5 Point Service, and Jake’s 5 Point Service. By the late 1950s and early 1960s, Clair Stiffler owned and operated a Sinclair service station before relocating his station to Lansing in 1964.
After the current building opened in 1969, it continued as a service station into the early 1970s. The building had a drive through car wash on the southeast side.
In 1975, Lansing mainstay, the Quality Dairy Company moved into Holt by opening a store at this location. The Holt QD store remodeled the service station, but it retains its recognizable shape and roofline. The store suffered a major electrical fire in 2017, which closed it for two years. Even after the fire, the building was retained, but gutted and remodeled. In 2019, Quality Dairy debuted its new concept store with drive thru, patio, and expanded offerings.
