Holt Post Office
Holt Post Office
4313-4319 West Holt Road, Holt, Michigan
Status: Still Standing
Opened: 1945 and 1955
Architect: Unknown
The easterly one-story single storefront commercial building at 4313 West Holt Road was built in 1945. It housed various businesses through the years, including a hardware store, DuPont Paints, and later Tel-Radio Systems for many years.
As Holt’s population grew in the post-WWII years, so too did the need for more space in its post office. From 1950 to 1955, the Holt Post Office circulation doubled, raising from a third to second class post office and increasing the space constraints. Postmaster Andrew Farnsworth oversaw the construction of and transition to this new larger post office. The post office opened at 4319 West Holt Road in November 1955. This was the first building in Holt dedicated for use as a Post Office. Previous to this, post offices were housed in general stores.
In 1987, the Holt Post Office grew out of the 2,500 square foot space and the current building on Aurelius Road opened.
From about 1989 through 1998, the building was occupied by Golden Oaks Furniture. In 1998, Divine Creations craft mall opened in the building. Divine Creations remained in business until 2004, though it did change hands in 2001. Mindy’s Bridal and Dress Shop rented the small east side of the building starting in 2000. In 2004, when Divine Creations closed, Mindy’s purchased the whole building and moved into the larger space.
