Built in 1962 at 2111 North Aurelius Road, the Holt Professional Building is most well-remembered by longtime residents as the home of Griffith’s Drug Store. When it opened it also housed the medical offices of Dr. John Hoyt, M.D., and Dr. Charles Henderson, D.D.S.

The building was built by the B&B Building Division of Foster, Schermerhorn, Barnes, Inc., of Lansing, and noted for its Stran Steel construction. Contractors for the construction were: Garlock Sales Co., mechanical; Standard Block and Supply Co., glass and aluminum; Young Brothers and Daley, brick and hollow metal doors; Boichot Concrete, concrete; Ray Sablain, Inc., earth work; Lansing Steel Erection, structural steel erection; Imperial Tile & Carpet Co., floor coverings; Spartan Asphalt Company, bituminous paving; Capitol City Lumber Co., millwork; Graybar Electric Co., electrical equipment and fixtures; William Reichenbach Co., plaster and acoustical; Louis E. Palmer, painting; LaVerne Lenon, well drilling; Ernest J. Baldwin, masonry.

Griffith’s Drug Store was owned and operated by Thomas Griffith. He ran a drug store in Lansing from 1952 to 1962, before moving his pharmacy into the new Holt Professional Building in 1962. Griffith’s was in business in Holt through 1977.

Later occupants include Dr. Richard Rule, optometrist (opened in 1974), Dr. Robert E. Hunter, M.D. (opened in 1975), The Hair Place (1978-1990) and The Doctor’s Inn Child Care Center (circa 1991), and Griff and Vicki’s Child Care Center (1994-present).
