Opened: 1956

The commercial building at 2221 North Cedar Street was constructed in 1956 to house the Holt location of the Matthews Ice Cream Stores. It replaced a two-story single family residence on the site.
The Holt Matthews Ice Cream Store opened in June 1956. They advertised a surface parking lot and drive up window, as well as take-out self service dairy products and a modern air-conditioned fountain. This was Matthew’s fifth store in the Greater Lansing area. The store sold fourteen ice cream flavors in half-gallon packs. Matthews closed its Holt store in the early 1960s.
From 1963 to 1968, the building was leased by Spartan Finance, which later moved across the road.
Shortly following Matthews’ sale of the building, in 1968, Viviane Woodard Cosmetics moved in and operated a hair salon and studio into the 1970s. The building was fully renovated in 1973. Other stores, such as Authentic Indian Jewelry (1975) operated in the building. For a period, about 1988 to 1993, Kirby Rebuilt Vacuums occupied the building.
Its last two major occupants were Touch of Class Martinizing Dry Cleaners from 1995 to 2004. Then for about twenty years, Little Caesars Pizza from 2004 through 2023. The building was purchased by Delhi Township Downtown Development Authority in 2023 and demolished along with the Gee House at its rear facing Aurelius.
